We believe that architecture is about the physical manipulation of elements and matter to create spaces that form an appropriate atmosphere and feeling. This intended atmosphere varies depending on many factors from the project type to its setting. To enable us to design with these physical qualities we need to work in a physical and analogue way. Model making in all its scales is key to how we design, test and make spaces. For the project for a new gallery, shown here in this exhibition, many models of many scales (of which this is a small selection) have allowed the project to evolve in an analytical and iterative way. The physical models allowed us to focus both on the presence of the structure as an object and simultaneously analyse the quality of spaces that would be experienced once the project is built. No other representation device allows for this level of simultaneous thinking in design
